Quality Manager – Composites 24/08/15

With three locations in Anderson County, SC, Chomarat North America has harnessed approximately 30 years of experience in developing a unique array of know-how for designing and manufacturing high performance reinforcement materials.  Using state-of-the-art technology, we are a leading provider of composite reinforcement materials for the construction, marine, wind energy, industrial, automotive and aerospace industries.  We have an immediate opening for a Quality Manager.  This is a key position responsible for maintaining our current ISO 9001 quality system and leading implementation of future requirements such as AS9100 and TS16949.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Reporting to the President of CNA, will manage and maintain current internal ISO 9001 quality systems for three manufacturing facilities supporting multiple markets in the composites industry. Implement and manage future quality system requirements such as AS9100 and TS16949.
  2. Manage quality department staff and provide guidance through staff development, project prioritization, and by demonstrating an understanding of our quality system in support of customer satisfaction.
  3. Manage the customer complaint resolution process and escalate issues as appropriate. Lead complaint investigations.  Provide timely customer complaint communications.
  4. Manage non-conforming products and material. Manage and drive robust and effective corrective and preventive action programs ensuring the use of appropriate problem solving tools.
  5. Manage and lead customer and internal audits.
  6. Manage validation and release of new materials.
  7. Manage finished products release.
  8. Establish and implement necessary communication strategy for the improvement and awareness of quality issues across all departments.
  9. Play an active role in the execution of improvement projects identified to drive quality systems effectiveness.
  10. Support and assist the quality function in the daily operations.
  11. Work with global organization and division quality managers to bring consistency and commonality to quality in support of our global business goals.
  12. Advise and support purchasing staff in supplier management and supplier quality.
  13. Monitor and inform/communicate/apply standards created or maintained by external bodies, and integrate within internal quality management systems.
  14. Communicate with customers and suppliers (where impacted/affected by quality issues).
  15. Oversee calibration and testing programs.
  16. Develop, document, and communicate internal standards and measures of performance, including the review and revision of policies, corrective and preventive actions, and internal audits and reviews.
  17. Establish key measures for analysis of existing quality programs and processes, and develops systems for tracking on-going activities and ensures that targets are achieved.
  18. Develop and implement appropriate quality training tools, techniques and programs to ensure quality programs and processes are implemented into the manufacturing process; enabling others to achieve quality standards/goals throughout the Company.
  19. Use process mapping techniques, root cause analysis, LEAN, 6 Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies to provide strategies which address internal methods for improving quality, productivity, and reducing/eliminating product waste and customer complaints.

KNOWLEDGE, BACKGROUND, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

 

Education:

  • BS degree in an Engineering, Scientific or Quality discipline
  • Related educational experience in Quality Systems (quality management, statistics and quality function tools)
  • Process improvement training and experience
  • Certified Green or Black Belt

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in a similar leadership position in a manufacturing environment
  • Thorough understanding of ISO 9001
  • Understanding of AS9100 and TS16949 systems is strong benefit
  • Expertise in formal process and quality improvement tools and methods LEAN, 6 Sigma, Kaizen, etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint (or similar document management system)

Skills and Abilities:

  • Self-motivated and independent self-starter who can also work well as a leader within a team environment
  • Results oriented manager with proven and relevant quality assurance experience and management abilities in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong follow-up, organization and prioritization skills, detail oriented
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication
  • Analytical approach to problem solving
  • Change agent

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Will work between a typical office setting and a manufacturing area with limited environment controls
  • Exposed to dust and noise
  • Requires working on concrete surfaces
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment; safety shoes, ear plugs, protective glasses, as well as operation specific equipment.
  • Requires contact with others (face-to-face, telephone, email and/or written communications)
  • Must work around hazardous equipment
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, twisting, bending, gripping, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular travel between local sites; occasional air travel (domestic and international) to customers, suppliers and other Chomarat sites
  • Requires working with a team; coordinating or leading others in accomplishing work activities
